Aspire, Care, Learn for Life

RE

This week we are learning who Saint Francis of Assisi was and why he thought the natural world was special.

Have a look at the PowerPoint about Francis of Assisi.

Look at the pictures, windows and statues of St Francis of Assisi. What do you notice about him? When and where do you think he lived? Why is he dressed like that? Who do you think he might be?

Explain that he lived about 500 years ago in Italy. He gave up all his possessions to help others and serve God. Discuss his relationship with nature. He believed that since God the Father had created everything in the natural world (including humans) all things in the natural world must be brothers and sisters. We therefore have a duty to care for everything in nature as we would a brother or sister.

Your child can then draw and label some of the ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ in the natural world around this picture of Saint Francis. (animals, birds, sun, moon, stars etc)

Finally, show the story of how he tamed the wolf on YouTube.
