Aspire, Care, Learn for Life

Art

In art this week we are learning to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share our ideas, experiences and imagination.

Look at the Van Gogh picture below, Landscape with House and Ploughman.

Ask children where can you see lines in the painting? Are they straight or curved? What shape can you see at the top of the painting?

Children to draw a simplified version of the image on to a large piece of paper using only a pencil (do not use anything else at this stage!) stress the importance that children are only drawing the lines that you can see in order to create an outline of the picture.

Children to take their time thinking about which way the lines go. Ask children to look at each part and discuss with them which direction would they need to draw the lines or the curves to create the same effect. Do not allow shading, colouring or painting at this stage (this will follow in another lesson!)
