Little Wandle Home Learning Sheets

 

Every week, your child take parts in a daily phonics lesson. To support your child's learning at home, we send a home learning sheet out on a Friday that shares with you the phonemes taught that week and the words that we have practised reading and spelling. 

 

Little Wandle Phonics Support

  • Little Wandle This link takes you directly to the parent section of the Little Wandle website page where you can watch helpful videos on how to say the sounds we are learning in class and learn more about how we teach Little Wandle at Tyrrells.
  • Phonics Play There are still some free elements of this website. Ideal for some extra phonics practice.
  • Oxford Owl This website has a large free eBook collection, featuring the characters from the ORT books that the children read at school.

The Tyrrells School Virtual Library

This collection includes a whole range of stories and books suitable for different ages and some lovely books to support emotional wellbeing and cultural development.

 

Just click on the book cover and it will take you to an audiobook video! These are brilliant for children to use while they are at home to access additional reading materials.

Useful English Websites 

  • Teach your monster to read Website is completely free, the app is paid. Great fun to play and very engaging. Choose from three levels: Level 1 - First steps, Level 2 - Fun with words and Level 3 - Champion reader.
  • Vooks A kid-safe, ad-free streaming library of read-aloud animated storybooks.
  • Teach Handwriting Whether you are just helping your child with their handwriting, or need support because they are struggling, these age related resources, information and advice will guide you through the handwriting process.
  • Flash Cards - Phase 3 This game helps children to consolidate their Phase 3 sounds. Ideally needs to be played with an adult to assess correct sound recognition.
  • Tricky Trucks - Phase 5 This game is will help pupils to practise reading tricky words. Ideally should be played with an adult to assess correct word recognition.
  • Yes/No Yeti - Phase 5 This game helps pupils to practise their phonics skills and sentence comprehension at Phase 5.
  • Odd and Bob - Phase 5 This game helps children with segmenting and blending at Phase 5. It also helps children to recognise and sort 'alien' and 'real' words.
