Emergency Closure Procedure
Tyrrells aims to ensure that children have access to learning for the statutory 190 days. However, it may be necessary for the school to close in exceptional circumstances and as a last resort.
These circumstances may include loss of essential services to the school, severe weather conditions or other local emergencies. The Health and Safety of the children is our first priority when making the decision to close. Sometimes it is necessary to open a little later than usual to help everyone get in to school safely, enabling parents to avoid the heavy traffic of rush hour and giving staff time to travel in safely from a distance.
In order to help you plan, Parents/Carers will be informed as soon as the decision to close has been made. The information will be provided in the following ways:
- A notice will be placed on the school website under ‘Latest News’
- Via a ParentMail text and email for those parents who have registered for ParentMail.
- A message will also be put on the school answerphone if a member of staff is able to get to school.
Local Radio Stations are no longer broadcasting lists of school closures, so do not listen to them expecting to hear this information. Radio stations may direct you to an Essex County Council website for information but please use our website instead.
Should the school need to close during the school day:
- A text message and e-mail will be sent to all parents registered with ParentMail (please ensure that you keep us updated with any new contact details.)
- Emergency contact numbers will be used to telephone other parents.
- No child will be sent home if we have not been able to contact parents.
