Religious Education (RE)

Purpose of Study

At Tyrrells, we ASPIRE, CARE, LEARN FOR LIFE and have a commitment to inclusivity. Our intention is to ensure our RE curriculum promotes this. Although the majority of our school demographic identify as non-religious (47%) or Christian (28%), we do also have children who identify as Hindu (5%), Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim (7%), Sikh, Catholic, Jehovah’s Witness or other. The RE curriculum is determined by the local Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE), which is responsible for producing the locally agreed syllabus for RE. The Saffron Academy Trust Religious Education (SATRE) curriculum has been created to follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus (LAS).

Aims

Outcomes in our RE books evidence a broad and balanced RE curriculum and demonstrate the children’s acquisition of identified key knowledge and reflection on the many concepts and philosophies introduced.

Through our curriculum, children will:

  • understand what it means to be religiously educated in the modern world;
  • possess a richer vocabulary which will enable to articulate their understanding of taught concepts;
  • have encountered or participated in high-quality visits to further appreciate the impact of religion/faith within a community;
  • become increasingly aware of how religious events and key historical figures have shaped the world that they currently live in;
  • become increasingly critical and analytical with their thinking, developing the skills to make informed and balanced judgements based on their knowledge of the past and present;
  • high aspirations, which will see them through to further study, work and a successful adult life.
